Felix Hüttenbach (Felix Huettenbach)
Felix Hüttenbach, also written Felix Huettenbach, is a German entrepreneur and investor whose name is most closely tied to SameDay Health, the on-demand healthcare company he founded in the United States in 2020 and scaled through the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also the co-founder of W8X, a fitness technology venture built with fellow students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Today he lives in Dubai, where his focus has shifted toward investing, mentoring founders and building an audience around the operating lessons he took from running a fast-growing healthcare company under real pressure.
Early life
Hüttenbach was born on 31 August 1993 in Germany and grew up in Düsseldorf. By his own account, what shaped him most as a child was less a specific ambition than a general pull toward difficulty — a preference for environments where he had to earn his place rather than ones where he already belonged. That instinct surfaced early: at age ten, having grown up watching Jackie Chan films, he talked his parents into letting him spend a full year training at a Shaolin monastery in China.
The year in China gave him more than martial arts skill. He has described it as his first real exposure to discipline as a daily practice rather than an occasional burst of effort, to the value of a tight-knit community built around shared hardship, and to the idea that physical health is something to actively maintain rather than something to take for granted. Those three threads — discipline, community, and bodily self-awareness — resurface repeatedly in how he later talks about building companies.
Education
At eighteen, Hüttenbach left home for Munich to study mechanical engineering and business administration — a combined Technology and Management track — at the Technical University of Munich, roughly between 2012 and 2016. He later spent time at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2016, and completed a graduate program focused specifically on entrepreneurship at MIT between 2017 and 2018, the period during which W8X was born.
Career
First ventures
Hüttenbach was running businesses before he finished his degree. While still a student in Munich, he started an event production company specifically to pay for his studies, then followed it with a travel agency — neither venture tied to healthcare or technology, but both early evidence of a pattern that would repeat: start something, make it self-sustaining, and move on once it no longer needed him full-time.
San Francisco and private equity
A stint in San Francisco followed, working with the German American Chamber of Commerce to help German technology companies plan their entry into the US market. He then returned to Munich to finish his studies and spent time in private equity at Aurelius, gaining exposure to how established investors evaluate and restructure businesses — a perspective he would later draw on as an operator rather than an analyst.
W8X
Back in the United States for Berkeley and then MIT, Hüttenbach co-founded W8X in 2017 alongside fellow MIT students. The company built fitness technology around electric motors used for strength training — an engineering-heavy product in a consumer fitness category. He later spent time as a guest lecturer and entrepreneur in residence at the University of Massachusetts Boston, through 2020, before selling his stake in W8X.
SameDay Health
After W8X, Hüttenbach joined Quantgene, a company working on early cancer detection through liquid biopsy, as Chief of Staff. When COVID-19 hit, he built a corporate testing unit inside Quantgene to serve employers who suddenly needed to test their workforces at scale. The experience exposed a much larger gap: ordinary people needed the same kind of fast, no-referral testing, and almost nothing like it existed for the general public. That gap became SameDay Health, which he founded in 2020 as founder and CEO.
The company scaled quickly — past 2,000 employees and more than three million Americans served across testing, vaccination and doctor visits. A 2021 profile placed it at roughly 50 locations across 15 states at that stage, with hundreds of thousands of tests already completed. SameDay Health became known for fast, patient-focused service and a large volume of five-star reviews, built around a mission Hüttenbach has described consistently: make healthcare more affordable, more transparent and more accessible. In May 2023, the company was acquired by Rume Health, with care continuing under physician Dr. Matthew Abinante.
Today: investing and content
Hüttenbach now lives in Dubai, where he invests in and advises founders, drawing directly on what he learned running a healthcare company under genuine operational pressure. He also publishes content — on video and in interviews — built around a consistent thesis: that companies last because of what they execute daily, not because of the story they tell about themselves.
Personal life
Hüttenbach is based in Dubai. In August 2024 he earned his private pilot's licence in just 40 days, a pace he has pointed to as an example of the same intensity he brings to work. He has also taken up skydiving, training alongside Jay Alvarrez, and talks about surfing a barrel wave as a long-held personal goal dating back to childhood. Alongside these pursuits, he has maintained an interest in environmental and philanthropic causes, framing his personal goals and his business philosophy as versions of the same underlying idea: step deliberately into situations that demand more of you than you're initially ready for.
